Hello everyone, my name is Daffa and this is my first writing in MEDIUM. I hope you enjoy reading every writing that I made on this platform.

Last November, I accompanied my grandparents to West Sumatra because of a traditional event in my hometown which was held on December 19, 2021. In my hometown, there are people called “Datuk” or you could say the head of the tribes who leads the people of their tribes. There are 7 tribes or you could say clans in my hometown one of them is “Chaniago” which is my tribe. so in this traditional event, we prepare the inauguration of the new “Chaniago Datuk” where my uncle was chosen to be the “Datuk”.

To prepare for this event, many people were involved in this preparation including all my family and friends in my hometown by preparing decorations in the big house and traditional hometown food that will be served on the day of the event. The inauguration ceremony was quite lively with the arrival of many people, even the Regent of Agam who is the regent of my hometown area who also an acquaintance of my uncle came. In this traditional event there is also traditional entertainment which can be seen from the picture below

After the inauguration, I can go on the trip to certain places in West Sumatera like Sawahlunto, Payakumbuh, etc. During my trip in Sawahlunto I am visited historical museums like “Lubang Mbah Suro” is an old coal mining cave and “Goedang Ransoem” is a museum that shows a place that used as a kitchen and stores food during the Dutch colonial era. Visiting this museum made me know a little about the origins of the city of Sawahlunto, especially during the Dutch colonial era.

3 days later i visited Payakumbuh where there’s a geopark (i think it has been acknowledged by UNESCO) called “Geopark Lembah Harau” (Harau Valley Geopark).

Geopark Harau known as a canyon with rice fields is hemmed in between huge granite cliffs. Geopark Harau also has waterfalls that me and my family visited while we are having a picnic there.

The Waterfall isn’t that big but for sightseeing is enjoyable to visit while enjoying the waterfall with “Popmie” to eat.

There are many stories during my trip in West Sumatra, but I think the interesting places and story that I can share is enough especially while in Sawahlunto and Payakumbuh. This is also my first writing hopefully I can write stories on this platform that are more organized, useful, and entertaining to read. to anyone reading this hope you can give me a review to write better in the future. I know it’s the 7th day of 2022 but Happy New Year everyone.
